The Philippines

Magat reservoir

The Magat Plant forms an important backbone in the local community on the island of Luzon in the Phillipines.

SN Power entered the Filipino market in 2006 through a joint venture with Aboitiz Equity Ventures. Today, SN Aboitiz is the largest private renewable energy company in the country.

In 2006, SN Power entered into a 50-50 partnership with Aboitiz Power, a local power entity with extensive experience in the power sector. The joint venture company, SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP), bid for and subsequently won three (3) sizable hydropower plants in North Luzon. SN Aboitiz is now the largest private renewable energy company in the country.

Hydropower assets

The hydro assets currently owned by SNAP are as follows:

  • 381 MW Magat hydropower plant located in the border of the provinces of Ifugao and Isabela. This facility was acquired and taken over by SNAP in April 2007.

  • 124 MW Binga hydropower plant located in the province of Benguet. This plant is currently operational but being upgraded.

  • 105 MW Ambuklao hydropower plant located in the province of Benguet. The plant was shut down following a earthquake in 1999. In 2008 SNAP bought the plant and it has since then gone through major rehabilitation that was completed in 2011.
