Financing of Cheves greenfield hydropower plant secured


Lima, Peru, December 21, 2010 - IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, will provide long-term financing of up to US$250 million, to help build the Cheves hydropower project in Peru. Cheves, a greenfield hydropower plant with 168 MW of installed capacity, will help meet Peru’s growing power needs while decreasing carbon emissions.

Totoral Wind Farm registered as a Clean Development Mechanism project


Today, the 46 MW Totoral Wind Farm in Chile was registered as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This gives the project right to issue Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) given that the project helps mitigating greenhouse gases.

The two run-of-river hydropower plants “La Higuera and La Confluencia” was inaugurated on October 26th by Chile`s president Sebastián Piñera.

SN Power to invest USD 400 million in the Cheves Hydropower project in Peru


SN Power has decided to invest USD 400 million, approximately NOK 2350 million, in the hydropower project Cheves in Peru. The construction will begin in 2011, and is expected to be finalized after three years at the end of 2013.

First phase of Allain Duhangan hydropower plant on stream


SN Power is pleased to inform that the two turbine generators in the Allain Duhangan project have been successfully synchronised with full capacity on the transmission line of 220 KV. The transmission line was not finished when the commercial operation started in July 2010 and has therefore been operating on a temporary low-voltage transmission line. As of 16 September it will operate on high-voltage.

First boys’ soccer team from Nepal to Norway Cup


The fourteen year old boys, members of the Kirne NC Team 2010, will be the first boys’ team from Nepal to participate in the world’s largest soccer tournament Norway Cup which takes place in Oslo at the end of July.

SN Power Agrees to Develop Renewable Energy with IFC in Vietnam


Washington D.C., 2 July 2010 - SN Power and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) have entered into a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to provide sustainable alternatives for meeting the growing demand for electricity in Vietnam through renewable energy generation. The JDA is signed in Washington D.C. between Mr. Bernard Sheahan, IFC Director for Infrastructure, and Mr. Erik Knive, Executive Vice President SN Power Southeast Asia.

Øistein Andresen becomes Executive Vice President, International Hydropower at Statkraft


CEO of Statkraft, Christian Rynning-Tønnesen announced today the new Corporate Management of Statkraft. Øistein Andresen will leave his current role as CEO of SN Power, to become part of Statkraft`s new Corporate Management. His new role will be Executive Vice President, International Hydropower. Stein Dale will continue as Chairman of the Board.

Visit of Deputy Prime Minister Hai of Vietnam to SN Power


Deputy Prime Minister Hai of Vietnam and a delegation from Vietnamese energy business and political sectors visited SN Power, Statkraft and NordPool on 16th June. The purpose was to learn about the Nordic power markets and Norwegian hydropower expertise. SN Power and Statkraft have vast experience operating in Southeast Asian and deregulated power markets.

Ten years of success for Khimti I

SN Aboitiz Power celebrates Earth Day with a pledge to environmental efforts


Celebrating the international Earth Day, SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP, a Joint Venture between SN Power and Aboitiz) in the Philippines conducted a clean-up drive within the Binga and Magat dam reservoirs and its vicinities. To follow up on the initiative, the 40 SNAP employees based in Metro Manila joined in and made a pledge to pursue eco-friendly habits.

SN Power Annual Report 2009 out now


Figures from the Annual Report 2009 show that the SN Power Group manoeuvred safely through the international credit and financial crises, with a net result of MUSD 33. Furthermore, the company continued its growth ambitions in emerging markets, with the opening of the group`s first wind farm in Chile and signing of a strategic partnership agreement with the Indian energy company Tata Power.

SN Power’s Ambuklao project demonstrates solid HSE records


The rehabilitation project of Ambuklao hydropower plant in Luzon, the Philippines, has reached 2.1 million work-hours without LTI (Lost Time Injury). The project currently employs more than 750 people and is scheduled to be commissioned end-2010 having increased Ambuklao’s generating capacity from 75MW to 105MW.

SN Power has officially established a Representative Office in Hanoi, Vietnam. The Hanoi Office’s purpose is to conduct business development and identify growth opportunities in the Vietnamese power market. “SN Power has followed Vietnam’s growth potential for many years. We are proud to have finally opened our Hanoi Office as a first step to become a long term investor in Vietnam," says Erik Knive, Executive Vice President SN Power Southeast Asia.

Assets Handover by Himal Power Limited to Khimti Rural Electric Cooperative


On March 24th the Norwegian Ambassador to Nepal, Mr. Thor Gislesen, handed over a 635 kW mini-hydro power plant from Himal Power Limited (in which SN Power is the majority owner) to the Khimti Rural Electric Cooperative (KREC).

SN Power turns the lights off for the environment


Earth Hour, the world’s largest climate demonstration, will take place on Saturday 27 March, from 8.30 p.m to 9.30 pm (local time). Individuals, organizations, companies and cities throughout the world will switch off their lights for one hour.

SN Power visit Haiti


Following the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti, employees at Statkraft (SN Power`s main owner) and SN Power launched a fundraising campaign to help the earthquake victims. In total NOK 745,000 (USD 130,000) was raised, which will be used for the reconstruction efforts led by the Norwegian Church Aid and the Red Cross. In March, SN Power`s emergency relief expert Halvor Fossum Laurtizsen went, together with Norwegian TV Channel TV2, to Haiti to witness the reconstruction effort. Accident on transmission line in India


March 11th An employee of a subcontractor at the Allain Duhangan hydro power project working on the transmission line was descending from a transmission tower, when he fell from the tower suffering a head injury, which later led to his death.

Chile Earthquake Update


On Saturday 27 February at 03:34 hours Chile suffered a seismic event of 8.8 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was approximately 50 kilometers offshore from Concepción, Chile’s second largest city. Subsequently there have been tsunamis that severely impacted the low lying coastal areas and numerous aftershocks. Major damage was experience with an estimate 2 million inhabits of the country in temporary shelter and over 700 reported deaths.

Totoral wind farm inaugurated today


The President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, inaugurated today SN Power’s first wind farm in Canela, near 300 kilometers north of Santiago, Chile. Totoral is expected to generate an annual average of 110 GWh of electricity to the Chilean central grid and will reduce more than 65 000 tons of CO2emissions.
