SN Power turns the lights off for the environment
26-3-2010
Earth Hour, the world’s largest climate demonstration, will take place on Saturday 27 March, from 8.30 p.m to 9.30 pm (local time). Individuals, organizations, companies and cities throughout the world will switch off their lights for one hour.
SN Power is also participating in order to mark our support for this initiative. Earth Hour is more than just switching the lights off, the campaign is a reminder to decision makers and consumers to encourage and demand long term energy efficiency plans.
“We are in the business of providing clean and renewable energy. In many of the countries were we operate there is an acute energy shortage, and we see how crucial access to energy is for the development of these countries. So any action, small or large, to increase energy efficiency is something we support", says Elsbeth Tronstad, Executive Vice President Communications and CSR.
Facts about Earth Hour
Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, at the initiative of the World Wide Fund for Nature, WWF. Over two million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change.
Last year, Earth Hour was organized in 88 countries and became the world’s largest climate demonstration, estimated to have reached almost a billion people. According to WWF, the demonstration contributed to an increased commitment to the climate, greater interest in environmental issues and a stronger feeling of community.
