First phase of Allain Duhangan hydropower plant on stream

India

20-9-2010

SN Power is pleased to inform that the two turbine generators in the Allain Duhangan project have been successfully synchronised with full capacity on the transmission line of 220 KV. The transmission line was not finished when the commercial operation started in July 2010 and has therefore been operating on a temporary low-voltage transmission line. As of 16 September it will operate on high-voltage.

The rated output of the two turbine generators are approximately 200 MW when operating on a full capacity. However, due to limited availability of water at the current stage, they are producing with a capacity of 100 MW until the availability of water increases.

The Allain Duhangan project is a greenfield run-of-river project, expected to meet the power shortages in the northern region of India that presently estimated at about 1500 MW.  Once fully operational it is designed to generate 820 million units annually. The first phase of the 200 MW hydropower project at Manali in Himachal Pradesh was commissioned on July 21st 2010.

The plant is operated by Allain Duhangan Hydro Project Limited (ADHPL, a subsidiary of Malana Power Company Limited (MPCL), a joint venture between Bhilwara Energy Limited (BEL) and SN Power.

SN Power is the only significant Hydropower development company in the world, operating exclusively in emerging markets.
