Gallito Ciego is a 37 MW hydropower plant that provides renewable energy to the main grid in Peru.
The plant
The Gallito Ciego hydropower plant is located in La Libertad region of Peru. It was purchased by SN Power in November 2003. The plant is located downstream of the Gallito Ciego Dam, which is primarily used for irrigation purposes. The dam is not part of the Gallito Ciego assets and is operated by the water authorities.
Operation
Since acquiring the plant, SN Power has initiated a number of activities to optimize commercial an technical operations such as changing the valves, refurbishment of compensation reservoir gates, and reorganization of the operation and maintenance schedule.
Sustainable development
The plant currently employs eight staff. Efforts are being maid to optimize water use in the valley both from a technical and social point of view. These efforts include evaluation of different methods for mitigating the existing sedimentation problem.
