Pariac

Pariac

Pariac is a 5 MW hydropower plant, with a annual average output of 24 GWh, that provides renewable energy to Peru’s main grid.

The Plants

Pariac consists of five plants with a combined capacity of 5 MW. Pariac is located in Peru’s Ancash region just outside the city of Huaraz. Pariac was purchased by SN Power in November 2003 as part of the Cahua/Energia Pacasmayo aquisition from the US company, NRG Energy. The plants take water from the Pariac River. There are four plants in cascade with the following capacities: CH1(0.2 MW), CH2 (0.4 MW), CH 3A (0.3 MW), CH3N (0.8 MW) and CH4 (3 MW).

Operation

Since acquiring the plants, SN Power has initiated a number of activities to optimise commercial and technical operations. Currently CH2 and CH3 are being refurbished. Two new potential greenfield sites, Pariac 5 and Pariac 6, with a total capacity of 7.7 MW are being evaluated.

Sustainable Development

The plants employ a total of 21 staff, including 15 employees from local communities. Local non-qualified manpower is hired as necessary to perform maintenance and civil works under the company’s site management supervision.
